This week the Boy Scouts of America will be deciding whether or not to allow local chapters to permit homosexuals to play a role in the organization, since it's inception it has always take a strong stand of not allowing them to be a part. In the last year or so the Scouts have lost some very large donors because of this stand and now the pressure is on for them to bend.
I want to first say that I believe the stand they take is a good Biblical position and believe that they should not bend. But how should a Christian within the organization respond if they do begin to permit homosexuals to become a part?
This morning I heard one man say that he would withdraw from the organization if they make the change. But is withdrawing the proper response for a believer?
My answer is no they should not respond by running because that only removes more spiritual light from within the organization and further more removes the opportunity to share Jesus Christ with those within it, including the homosexual if they be permitted to join.
I firmly believe that one of the reasons our country is in its current condition is because every time an issue like this arises, Christians run from it rather than seeing it as another opportunity to have an influence with the gospel. The Apostle Paul clearly said, If our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. If we keep running away from matters of this nature then we cannot expect things to get better but only worse.
I believe it is time for Christians to stand up for Christ, speak up for Christ by declaring the gospel to the lives they come into contact with and begin to make headway by going into the world to reach lost sinners.
The believers response to sin should never be to run and hide, but rather let our light so shine that men may see our good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
